Trevor Babcock Buildings for Marshalltown High School and Miller Middle School will soon be more full with students than they have since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The Marshalltown Community School District will begin 100 percent in-person learning for grades seven through 12 on Tuesday, and educators have stressed commitment to safety measures limiting students and staff to COVID-19 exposure. “The district has been working hard to further accommodate our students and their families; relative to their return to learn needs, desires and plans with the governor and legislature having recently mandated all students who are willing and able to return to school daily,” Superintendent Theron Schutte said.

Calendar approved 2021 to 2022 school year | News, Sports, Jobs

A calendar for Marshalltown Community School District’s 2021-22 school year has been approved, including the incorporation of a spring break. Closely mirroring the calendar of the 2020-21 school year, the calendar for next year includes 190 teacher contracted days with 177 days being student contact days. Parent-teacher conferences are included in the 177 student contact days and 11 of the 190 teacher contracted days include professional development or teacher workdays with another two days allocated for teacher compensation days. The first day of school would be Aug. 24, and the last day of school would be June 1 barring no cancellations for inclement weather.

Times-Republican The Marshalltown Community School District confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 among students and employees on Friday: • Total cases among students: six • Total cases among staff: two Previous reports and the number of cases include Jan. 29, four cases; Jan. 15, 10 cases; Jan. 8, 16 cases; Jan. 5, one case; Dec. 27, seven cases; Dec. 19, 11 cases; Dec. 11, 13 cases; Dec. 4, 20 cases; Nov. 27, 18 cases; Nov. 20, 27 cases; Nov. 14, 24 cases; Nov. 7, 34 cases; Oct. 30, 13 cases; Oct. 23, six cases; Oct. 16, four cases; Oct. 9, five; Oct. 2, four; and Sept. 25, four. The district started weekly COVID-19 case reports on Sept. 18, in which seven cases were confirmed. A report on the number of COVID-19 cases within the district is shared weekly on Fridays. Each report shares the total number of new, confirmed cases among students and staff members throughout the district since the time of the previous report.
