MANISTEE Residents of Crawford, Missaukee, Manistee and Wexford Counties can now receive a prescription for free fruits and vegetables, as well as access to free virtual nutrition education through the Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program.
The program is funded through the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, designed specifically to support individual and community health and is made possible by several partners including, District Health Department #10, Munson Healthcare and Michigan State University Extension.
The program is based on a successful pilot program from Washtenaw County and came to Northern Michigan several years ago. It has since expanded several times to include new communities across the region.

LANSING, Mich. – It just got easier for Michigan students to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to develop healthy, lifelong habits. The Michigan Model for Health, a comprehensive school health education curriculum, implemented in most Michigan schools, is now available to educators online.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Michigan Department of Education (MDE) are announcing the new format for this nationally recognized K-12 comprehensive school health education curriculum.
Improving accessibility while also making the Michigan Model responsive to emerging health issues assures that Michigan students are receiving effective health instruction that teaches them how to make healthy choices now and in the future. That is particularly valuable for students who are learning virtually during the pandemic.

MARQUETTE The COVID-19 vaccination process throughout the Upper Peninsula is anticipated to begin next week, the Marquette County Health Department reported.
MCHD officials acknowledged it will be a large undertaking with multiple partners.
The initial allotment will be the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, to be followed by the Moderna vaccine, which the AP reported that a panel of outside experts is expected to recommend on Thursday, with the FDA’s green light coming soon thereafter.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is approved for individuals age 16 and over, and initial allotments will be designated for those in the highest priority group as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: health care personnel, emergency medical services, and skilled nursing facilities staff and residents.
