Michigan lifts mask requirements for outdoor gatherings with less than 100 people

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced Tuesday that masks will generally not be required at outdoor gatherings that has less than 100 people.

“The commitment by Michiganders to receive the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine is allowing us to move toward a return to normal,” said MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel. “The vaccines work. That means once Michiganders are fully vaccinated, they do not have to abide by as many health guidelines because of the protection the vaccine provides from the spread of the virus. Last week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer launched the MI Vacc to Normal plan to set vaccine milestones to enable a return toward normalcy. This week we are taking further steps in that direction.”

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan has reported more than 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered as of Tuesday, with 50.6% of eligible residents having received at least one dose while 39.3% of eligible residents are considered fully vaccinated.

Whitmer said children are not going to be counted. The percentage is only of eligible adults and including children would reduce the overall percentage.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University has released a five-year plan to prevent sexual assault and harassment on campus.
Inside the 72-page report, MSU is promising changes such as training volunteers to response to assault reports in campus neighborhoods, review investigations from the offices of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity to find issues and create a new group to find ways to address incidents beyond Title IX.
While the plan was praised by MSU’s workgroup and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, advocates for assault survivors said the plan falls short. They wanted outside eyes on the university’s internal working.

LANSING, Mich. â The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with the Michigan Department of Transportation and select Michigan airports to bring antigen COVID-19 testing to locations with high volumes of travel.
âTravel Points Testingâ will offer quick and free testing to several Michigan Welcome Centers and airports throughout the state, with results available in as little as 15 minutes, according to a news release Thursday.
Walk-ups will be taken as space allows, and an option to register online through a mobile device will also be available.
