Liquor Licenses and Permits Suspended for an Additional Eight Businesses Across Michigan for Violations of MDHHS Emergency Order
December, 15, 2020 - The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) has issued emergency suspensions of the liquor licenses and permits for an additional eight businesses across Michigan. The licensees’ multiple violations of the current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Emergency Order include: allowing non-residential, in-person gatherings; providing in-person dining; failure to require face coverings for staff and patrons; and failure to prohibit patrons from congregating. Since September 2020, the MLCC has suspended liquor licenses of a total of 21 establishments located throughout the state for violations of the emergency and executive orders due to the pandemic.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission has suspended liquor licenses from seven more restaurants and a bowling alley for allowing in-person gatherings and disregarding the mask mandate.
Among the eight is Andiamo Italia in Warren. Andiamo Owner Joe Vicari banded together a group of restaurant owners earlier this month in hopes of reopening together in defiance of Michigan’s prohibition on in-person dining due to COVID-19.
“I don’t want to disobey the government orders. I really don’t,” Vicari said in the meeting. “Because it’s a losing situation.”

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission has suspended liquor licenses from two Macomb County establishments, including Andiamo Italia in Warren, for violating the state s ban on in-person dining and face mask requirement.
The emergency suspensions take effective immediately and prohibits the restaurants from serving alcohol with their Class C liquor license. A virtual hearing via Zoom is scheduled for Friday.
Andiamo owners Joe and Rosalie Vicari had urged other restaurant owners across southeast Michigan to join forces earlier this month to resist the state s ban on in-person dining because of the COVID-1 pandemic. Following a Zoom meeting with the owners on Dec. 3, they changed course, saying instead of opposing a state-mandated shutdown order, they would try to negotiate another way to open safely.

A decision was made for the liquor license at The Iron Pig Smokehouse in Gaylord.
The judge found the restaurant and owner Ian Murphy had a “serious disregard for the health and safety of their staff and patrons.”
He ordered the restaurant to pay $600 in fines and the liquor license will be suspended for 90 days.
If the restaurant violates the order they could face more fines, suspensions or their license revoked altogether.
The judge said it continues to be a danger as long as the Iron Pig continues to hold in-dining service, which they plan to continue.
Owner, Ian Murphy said he has no regrets. “I really don’t have any regrets,” he said. “Our lights are still on. The open sign is on. We are putting money in everybody’s pockets for the holidays. Our team, our family is able to pay their bills and pay their rent.”
