Former Sherborn Police Chief Richard Thompason sues town over firing

SHERBORN – Former Sherborn Police Chief Richard Thompson said the allegations used against him by the town to fire him in October have made him “unemployable” to ever work in law enforcement again. “This has been an extremely trying experience,” said Thompson on Friday. “I’ve dealt with and fought cancer twice in my life. Without question, this was far more taxing on myself and my family, my friends and my colleagues. I’ve never been more uncomfortable, sick to my stomach, embarrassed belittled.” Through his attorney Joseph Sulman, Thompson filed a lawsuit in Middlesex Superior Court earlier this month against the town of Sherborn, Town Administrator David Williams, Interim Police Chief David Bento, the then-members of the Selectboard who terminated his contract – Jeff Waldron, Charles Yon, George Morrill and Paul Derenis – as well as an attorney hired by the town, Maura Gallagher.

Larceny charge, MA former selectman Andrew Porter, disbarred attorney

WOBURN – A former Holliston “Citizen of the Year,” who served 12 years as a town selectman, is accused of misusing clients money when he was an attorney. Andrew Porter, 58, who now lives in Whitinsville, pleaded not guilty at his Middlesex Superior Court arraignment on Thursday to four counts of larceny by false pretense of more than $250. He is accused of using more than $71,000 of fraudulently obtained money for his own use. Judge Helene Kazanjian released Porter without bail, but ordered him to not engage in selling securities, loans and other investments. He is due back in court on June 11. Porter had already been disbarred for the financial fraud. In 2018, the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers disbarred Porter, alleging financial misconduct. That included billing his former firm and clients for personal expenses, intentional misuse of client trust account funds, and keeping a client’s retainer instead of giving it to his firm.

The jury trial, which was set to begin Tuesday at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn, Mass., has been rescheduled for Jan. 25, 2022, with a pre-trial conference on Jan. 14. The schedule of jury trials has been backed up in Massachusetts since last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jury trials were halted in the state in March 2020 when the pandemic hit, and did not resume again until Jan. 2021, meaning many trials have been delayed far into the future.
