DPS: Unattended vehicle hits, runs over Midland man FacebookTwitterEmail DPS vehicles photographed for file - May 12, 2018 James Durbin/Reporter-TelegramJames Durbin/Reporter-Telegram The Texas Department of Public Safety reported on Thursday that a 70-year-old Midland man died earlier this week after being hit by an unoccupied car. DPS reported that Gilbert T. Martinez passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital after an incident at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of West County Road 114. The Department of Public Safety reported that a preliminary investigation indicated a 2005 Ford Freestyle was in reverse gear and unoccupied, and that the “driver/pedestrian” was outside the vehicle. DPS then reported that the vehicle ran over the pedestrian/driver. The crash is still under investigation.
