MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Overton Square is the heart of a bustling Midtown Memphis district where arts of all kinds have turned the four corners of Memphis Cooper Street and Madison Avenue into a magnet for foodies, music lovers, and theatre enthusiasts.
The second TGIFriday’s in America opened on Madison Avenue at Cooper Street May 21, 1970, after a successful bid to sell liquor by the drink passed in the Tennessee legislature.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee Have you ever had a sinking feeling? McLean Boulevard in Midtown Memphis certainly did.
A sinkhole opened on McLean between Poplar Avenue and Overton Park Avenue Thursday while crews were doing excavation work. While the sinkhole was big enough to temporarily close the road, the city hopes it will be back open again Friday night.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee Tuesday - saying COVID-19 is no longer a public health crisis in Tennessee - Gov. Bill Lee said he wants all counties - including Shelby County - to lift all business restrictions and mask mandates by Memorial Day.
While the state can order that for all non-metro counties, such public health changes could be a tougher sell in the Memphis area and already facing resistance. It s time for government to get out of the business of public health interventions, Gov. Lee said in Nashville Tuesday morning.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Black Lives Matter and a rainbow crosswalk were unveiled in Midtown Memphis over the weekend.
The colorful crosswalks are now on display at Cooper St. and Monroe Ave. near the Hattiloo Theatre.
The Memphis Public Art Review committee approved the designs earlier this year.
In 2019, a rainbow crosswalk was unveiled in Cooper Young.
