Goodhue County Sheriff s Office released the identity of a Dodge Center man whose remains were found in a burnt vehicle next to a structure fire on New Year s Eve. Cory Lee Cassidy, 36, may have died by accidental carbon monoxide asphyxiation, and there were no indications of foul play, according to a sheriff s office news release Jan. 21. Kenyon firefighters responded to a residence in the 45000 block of Highway 56 Blvd. after 6 p.m. Dec. 31. The sheriff s office said the investigation indicates the fire started in the area of the vehicle and spread to the home, but it s unknown how the fire started.

(KEYC) — The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that occurred Tuesday at a duplex in North Mankato. The North Mankato Fire Department was called to the duplex on Restless Court just before 7 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a garage fire. Authorities say vehicles were on fire inside the garages of both units. The living areas of both units were damaged by smoke and water.

After reading a news report about two people in Chicago who d nearly died from carbon monoxide poisoning in October, Brundidge learned from the city s fire department that an elderly woman had recently called in looking for a detector, as she couldn t afford one, but the city had none to give. I said, You gotta be kidding me, Brundidge recalls. I said, You know what? We ll go and fix this. She soon got in touch with the Minnesota State Fire Marshall s Office, with whom she collaborated on a social media campaign to spread awareness on the importance of carbon monoxide detectors.

Goodhue County Sheriff Still Investigating Fire Death The Peterson house is nestled in woods to the north of the Country Club in Holden Township. The Goodhue County Sheriff s Office news release says, Upon arrival, firefighters located human remains in a burnt vehicle parked outside of the residence.   The Kenyon Fire Department was assisted by Wanamingo Fire Department in responding to the fire along with the Kenyon Police Department and Goodhue County Sheriff s Office. The Goodhue County Sheriff s Office did not identify the exact address of the home or the homeowners.  They did say the owners were accounted for. I checked with a few people in Kenyon to confirm it was the Peterson house.  I was told the vehicle did not belong to them or any of their family members.  Barb and Jerry were in Arizona and have returned to Kenyon.  All family members have been located.
