(Stock photo) Domestic violence incidents in Milwaukee and elsewhere have spiked during the pandemic  spurred in part by increased stress levels and by lockdown measures that trapped victims at home with their abusers.  Some seek help but face a number of obstacles to overcome the traumatic circumstances. For Black, Indigenous and people of color, or BIPOC, and LGBTQ communities in Milwaukee, one of those obstacles includes finding access to culturally specific domestic and sexual violence services designed to address their needs and experiences. “People come in with the difficult situations and trauma and having individuals that might not understand their culture or not have the language expertise, well, that makes it more traumatic,” said Janan Najeeb, president and CEO of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition.

National Ave, Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers has opened its new behavioral health clinic on National Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side. The clinic is located at 1635 W. Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers Seeking South Side Artist(s) for Mural on National Ave Clinic Sixteenth Street commissions mural on new National Ave Clinic to celebrate vibrancy and multi-cultural identity of National Avenue Corridor community Milwaukee, Wis. (January 7, 2020) – Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers is seeking creative proposals for a mural on the front side of their soon-to-open National Ave clinic located at 1635 W. National Avenue. Selected artist(s) will be commissioned for installation late spring/early summer. All artists interested in participating must complete and adhere to the guidelines in the Request for Proposal (RFP) which is available online. Preference will be given to artists with a proven ability to execute high-quality murals in the public realm who meet project objectives that embody the Sixteenth Street and National Avenue Corridor spirit, and who are from, reside in, or have a strong connection to the South Side of Milwaukee
