Minister O Brien & Minister Burke approve over â¬23m in funding for the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme & Improvement Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing Scheme
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh OâBrien TD and the Minister of State with responsibility for Planning and Local Government Peter Burke TD have today (7 May) approved funding of more than â¬23m million for the Disabled Persons Grant scheme (DPG) and Improvement Works In Lieu of social housing scheme (IWILs).
Every local authority will receive the funds they have requested to carry out works this year in 2021. Under both schemes, exchequer funding meets 90% of the cost of the works in each property, with the local authority providing the remaining 10%.

The Minister of State for Planning and Local Government Peter Burke and the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien have today (7 May) approved funding of more than €23m million for the Disabled Persons Grant scheme (DPG) and Improvement Works In Lieu of social housing scheme (IWILs).
Leitrim Co Council will receive an allocation of €101,333 with €11,259 contribution from their own resources leaving a combined fund of €112,593 available in the county for the scheme covering 21 housing units.
Importantly, every local authority will receive the funds they have requested to carry out works this year in 2021. Under both schemes, exchequer funding meets 90% of the cost of the works, with the Local Authority providing the remaining 10%.
An important change to how Development Levies are charged in Fingal will help address and unintended penalty on families building larger homes to accommodate children with disabilities.
Fingal County Council as a Planning authority, apply a Development Levy charge to every Planning permission it grants. That is with a few exceptions. The adopted scheme runs for a period of five years.
The Scheme was before the council last Monday and it was expected that the Management s recommendation would be adopted.
Veteran Local Councillor Cathal Boland had other ideas, however.
He proposed amendments, motivated to make changes having spoken to Rush man, Damien Doyle whose daughter Grace is severely disabled.
