Annual Memorial Day parade and pageant at Fort Michilimackinac postponed for 2021 Cheboygan Daily Tribune MACKINAW CITY The Village of Mackinaw City made the announcement earlier this week the annual Memorial Day parade through downtown and the annual pageant at Fort Michilimackinac have been postponed for another year. After much consideration, we have determined in the best interest of the health and welfare of all participants that we must postpone our Memorial Weekend parade for 2021, said John Lemanski, parade co-chair. This will be the second year in a row that we have not had the parade. The parade was originally scheduled to be on May 29 and it has been a yearly event in Mackinaw City for more than 50 years. Last year was the first time the event had been postponed although several years have seen winter weather or rain, but the parade still went on.

If you’ve ever marveled at the artillery used in historic reenactments, then a Michigan park has a bucket-list worthy thrill in store for you. Colonial Michilimackinac, the reconstructed 18th-century fort and fur-trading village at the tip of Michigan’s mitten, is unveiling a new program in 2021 that will give visitors the rare opportunity to fire off the fort’s four black-powder weapons over the Straits of Mackinac.

Mackinac State Historic Parks Takes Education Outreach Virtual for 2021

9 & 10 News January 29, 2021 Each year, Mackinac State Historic Parks sends historic interpreters into classrooms across the state to share the history of the area. This year they had to change the program to all virtual, but it’s not all bad news. This allows them to reach even more classrooms anywhere in the state. They have created six virtual program offerings. “Our new online education programs allow us to reach students across the state, regardless of whether they are learning in the classroom or at home,” said Craig Wilson, Mackinac State Historic Parks’ Chief Curator. “Additionally, our new programs significantly broaden the scope of MSHP’s educational offerings, allowing us to address a variety of curriculum standards across multiple grade levels.”
