Case Writers-in-Residence Presented Virtually April 8 - Western Illinois University News

March 16, 2021 MACOMB, IL The Western Illinois University Department of English will host the Fred Ewing Case and Lola Case Writers-in-Residence, in a virtual format, Thursday, April 8. This year s writers include Jennifer Militello, Crisosto Apache and Marianne Boruch. Virtual Quantum Chess Presented Friday - Western Illinois University News - Office of University Relations

March 11, 2021 MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Physics will host the virtual colloquium Quantum Chess and the Future of Quantum Games, at 3 p.m. Friday, March 12. The session will be led by Christopher Cantwell, CEO of Quantum Realm Games, and will feature a new game that allows the movement of chess pieces according to the rules of Quantum Mechanics, as opposed to the standard, classical game of chess. The session will also include information about Cantwell s personal journey as a quantum physicist and entrepreneur. Cantwell earned his bachelor s degrees in physics and electrical engineering from the University of Southern California and began his Ph.D. in physics. During his studies, he started a side project that eventually evolved into Quantum Chess. In 2019, Cantwell began a collaboration with Google and running his company full time.
