The coronavirus pandemic has put a heavy burden on education and teachers in particular.
One local teacher saw the pandemic as an opportunity to utilize her time at home by continuing her education and moving up the ladder in her career.
Lori Ann Jones, a special education teacher at Pueblo County High School, used the stimulus check she received from the CARES Act to return to school and get her second master s degree in order to move up the pay scale at Pueblo County School District 70. As a single mom, I m always looking for ways to support my daughter and myself, Jones said. Having an additional master s degree would bump up my salary level at the school district.

Education Committee launches Warwick School Redesign Facebook page
WARWICK Members of the Warwick Education Committee have launched a Warwick School Redesign Facebook page, which includes past news articles and information from the town newsletters that relate to Warwick’s effort to reopen its elementary school.
The Pioneer Valley Regional School District voted to stop using the Warwick Community School building in January 2020. The new page will share information pertaining to ongoing efforts to establish a future independent elementary school. The page is public and accessible to all, even without a Facebook account.
Reno County announced the elevation of
Helen Foster to the position of Human Resources Director. Foster takes over the job from Renee Harris, who retired in March.
Foster’s responsibilities will include supervising the human resources staff, overseeing employee benefits, recruitment, performance appraisals, and training.
She’ll also be responsible for enforcing resolutions, policies, and regulations adopted by the Board of County Commissioners.
Foster began her career in government in the Guymon, Oklahoma, Clerk’s Office.
After relocating to Kansas with her family, she held positions in the Reno County Commission Office, County Appraiser’s Office, and has been a Human Resources Specialist at the county since 2009.

Lifting Erie County families from the economic shock of COVID-19 and into a new, post-pandemic future will likely be the biggest challenge for the next County Council.
And with three seats on the seven-member body up for election this year, the onus will be on voters to decide who best to meet that challenge come 2022.
In the 2nd District, Democratic incumbent Andre Horton is running unopposed both in the May 18 primary and Nov. 2 general election making his reelection a guarantee.
However, Council Chairman Carl Anderson, a Democrat, is running for county executive, leaving his 4th District seat up for grabs.
