ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Children ages 12 to 15 in New York could get vaccinated as early as Thursday, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory committee was expected to meet Wednesday to formally recommend the Pfizer vaccine for that age group. But Cuomo has said before New York can start vaccinating those minors, the state’s vaccine advisory task force and state health commissioner will first have to review safety data and decide whether to recommend the vaccine.
The mayor and health officials in New York City, meanwhile, said they have plans to start vaccinating children ages 12 to 15 on Thursday.

OLYMPIA, Wash. The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has expanded COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to everyone 12 and older following recommendations that the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective for 12 to 15-year-olds.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup voted on Wednesday night to recommend it for immediate use.
“Expanding eligibility to this younger age group protects our children and gives families peace of mind. It is the best step we can take as parents to ensure our kids remain in the classroom, can safely spend time with friends, and take part in sports and extracurricular activities,” said Umair A. Shah. MD, MPH. “Research continues to show this vaccine is safe and I am thrilled it is now an option for parents and their young teens.”

County leaders estimate that there are nearly 176,000 San Diegans ages 12 to 15 who can now get their Pfizer vaccine, following the FDA s authorization earlier this week.
For at least one of those young people, this has proven to be life-changing. It really opens up a lot, said 15-year-old Lola Ferguson, who got her first Pfizer shot Wednesday afternoon.
For her, this was more than just a run-of-the-mill vaccination It is the beginning of an amazing start for her and for our family, said her mother, Jennifer Ferguson. Just to be able to go out in the world.
