Dr. Mark Ghaly from CDPH said in a briefing Tuesday that the state hopes to soon vaccinate the young teens that have had to shoulder a significant burden during the pandemic. The exciting benefit, as we begin to return to more normal activities, whether that s going in-person school, spending time with friends, we know that young people have shouldered a significant burden throughout COVID, said Ghaly.
Fahrni said the pandemic has been tough for her. Well, I had to give up school and that was really hard for me, said Fahrni. I had to give up seeing my friends and it was hard for, like, especially in the beginning.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – On Monday, the FDA extended the emergency use authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to ages 12 and older.
Before health officials in California can administrate the vaccine for these ages, both the CDC and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup (WSSSR) must review and approve these recommendations, Butte County Public Health said.
The WSSSR was created to provide an additional vaccine safety review for California and other western states. If it is authorized by the CDC and WSSSR, Butte County health officials said they will follow the recommendations and offer the Pfizer vaccine to ages 12 and older.

The Oregon Health Authority first must give the green light for 12- to 15-year-olds to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, health officials said after the federal government receives additional approvals. Officials in Oregon plan to make an announcement when COVID-19 immunizations of this group can begin.
The Oregon Convention Center, Portland International Airport and Hillsboro Stadium are expected to serve as options for the new wave of Oregonians ages 12 to 15 when they become eligible for Pfizer vaccinations as early as this week.

Five students in the 12 to 15 age group were given COVID-19 vaccines Tuesday at a San Diego high school a day after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized emergency use for those ages – but the county has not yet approved that practice.
Federal officials’ announcement on the authorized use was met with confusion by residents on whether young teenagers in San Diego County could get their shots already. Since California requires ultimate approval from a regional workgroup and each individual county after that, COVID-19 vaccines are not yet available to residents ages 12 to 15, according to San Diego County officials.

More than 23,000 of Sonoma County’s kids may soon become eligible for the coronavirus vaccine. On Monday, the FDA granted the Pfizer vaccine emergency use authorization for children between the ages of 12 and 15. The county granted 16 and 17-year-olds eligibility shortly after the FDA approved the vaccine for that age group last month. Sonoma County Vaccine Chief Dr. Urmila Shende says local officials will probably do the same for those aged 12 through 15, once the CDC and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup recommends the age group expansion. A CDC advisory committee will hold an emergency meeting about the topic tomorrow.
