Vaccine Clinic at DeVos Place Coming to an End on May 22
When the COVID-19 vaccines were approved by the federal government, DeVos Place in Downtown Grand Rapids decided to utilize their space as a massive site to get people vaccinated. The West Michigan Vaccine Clinic has been open since the end of January and will now come to an end next month.
The news was announced in a joint statement from the Kent County Health Department, Spectrum Health, and Mercy Health. They say that they ve reached a new phase in the vaccine process that doesn t require such a large facility anymore.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â The West Michigan Vaccine Clinic plans to wind down vaccination efforts by May 21, according to Kent County.
Tim Hawkins with Spectrum Health says they have entered a vaccination phase that no longer requires the large-scale effort that the clinic has provided, adding that focus will soon shift to smaller communities.
âWe are grateful for the partnership between Kent County, Spectrum Health, Mercy Health and Vaccinate West Michigan for this collaborative effort,â says Hawkins, âand we are grateful for our clinicians and volunteers who dedicated their time to making WMVC a success.â

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, along with several Grand Rapids Public Schools students, received her second and final dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Thursday afternoon. This followed her announcement earlier in the day outlining a new plan to ease safety restrictions that is directly tied to vaccination rates.
Whitmer announced her âMI Vacc to Normal Challengeâ plan Thursday morning in a press conference. She was joined by Lt. Gov Garlin Gilchrist, MDHHS Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun and MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel for the early announcement.
