Regal Foods £89k bakery expansion project to create 30 jobs Yorkshire-based baker Regal Foods has secured an £89,391 grant from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to support the expansion of its production facility and create new jobs.
The manufacturer – whose brands include Regal, the Yorkshire Baker and The Baking Company – aims to use the money to expand its existing production site to manufacture Bombay Mix, creating 30 roles.
Regal Foods operations director Absar Younis said the business had identified a gap in the market for the product.
Funding from the LEP was delivered by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, through the Leeds City Region Growth Deal – a £1bn package of Government investment to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
A man gets on a bus in Bradford city centre WEST Yorkshire Councillors have raised concerns over the future of local bus services, and fear the Covid pandemic could see some routes or even whole companies disappear. Lockdowns, the need for social distancing, home working and a reluctance to return to public transport has meant bus usage, and income for bus companies, has plummeted since March. But at a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee yesterday, members heard that despite the greatly reduced income to fund bus routes, services still needed to run to help transport key workers.
The expansion will help deal with the growing popularity of the company s Bombay Mix. The grant will come from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership. Regal Foods is a well-established food manufacturer that has grown from selling to corner shops to a multi-million-pound business, now supplying clients across the UK and exporting to over 40 countries around the world. The company manufactures and supplies over 100 different product lines under two brands called ‘Regal Foods’ and ‘Yorkshire Bakery,’ which includes a variety of cakes and pastries, biscuits, savouries and juices. The business recently found an opportunity in the UK market to manufacture a popular product called Bombay Mix.
AIREDALE NHS Foundation Trust is among organisations supported by a scheme designed to encourage more people to cycle to and from work. Since the launch of the Bike Friendly Business grant initiative, more than 20 organisations have shared awards totalling over £100,000. The support is provided by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, through its CityConnect programme. Last summer the authority and partner councils secured £2.5 million from the Government’s active travel fund and began working with businesses and communities to enable more people to cycle and walk. The support given to Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, which was match-funded by Bradford Council, helped it increase its secure bike parking for employees.
