CTC rejects Bluefield State College request for satellite campus in Wheeling By

The City of Wheeling and Bluefield State College agreed to an MOU in February on using parts of the old OVMC campus for a branch.
WHEELING, W.Va. Following months of debate between officials with Bluefield State College, the City of Wheeling and local college leaders in Ohio County, the West Virginia Council for Community & Technical College Education rejected the request by Bluefield State College to offer three associate degrees at a satellite campus in the city.
The council (CTC) made the motion unanimously to reject any type of offering on Thursday morning. The coordinating board for West Virginia’s two-year higher education system must approve any new associate degree programs for it to begin.

Concert pianist Gerald Lee to perform at the Gold Derrick Gallery in Sistersville on May 16 at 2 p.m.
This event is sponsored by Barb and Tom Daly Lee, professor of piano at West Liberty University, will perform at 2 p.m. at the Gold Derrick Gallery in Sistersville. The concert will mark Lee’s fifth occasion to play for ArtsLink, the arts council for Wetzel and Tyler counties. Following the concert, Lee will conduct a master class for local piano students. WHEELING West Virginia University seeks an 80% COVID vaccination rate on campus, while local colleges and universities have not yet formulated plans for their students’ return to campus in the fall.
WVU officials announced this week its COVID policy for the upcoming fall semester.
“At this time, WVU is not requiring vaccination, but it is strongly recommended,” WVU said in a released statement. “As the Emergency Use Authorizations are lifted by the Food and Drug Administration, the University may consider requiring COVID-19 vaccines for those who are not medically exempted.
The following high schools and colleges have announced their 2021 graduation ceremony schedule:
⢠West Liberty University: Graduate students, 5 p.m. Friday; undergraduate students, Saturday (College of Education and Human Performance and the College of Liberal Arts, 10 a.m.; College of Sciences, noon; College of Arts and Communication, the Gary E. West College of Business and the School of Professional Studies, 3 p.m. All ceremonies will be held at the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex.
⢠Bethany College: 10 a.m., Saturday, Bison Stadium.
⢠West Virginia Northern Community College: 7 p.m. May 14, Wheeling Island Stadium.
⢠Franciscan University of Steubenville: Baccalaureate Mass, 6 p.m. May 14; Science departments commencement, 9 a.m., May 15; arts departments commencement, 1 p.m. May 15. Commencement ceremonies will be held in the Finnegan Fieldhouse.
