After almost two years of being dry, water was slowly allowed back in its rightful place in the reservoir of the Mitchell mill pond last week.
LONDON, ONT. Thursday evening London firefighters were called to a section of the Thames River in northeast London after a child wound up in the water. Firefighters entered the water to rescue the child. The age of the child was not specified by the London Fire Department described them as a preteen. According to fire officials an adult and the child were near the river off Cobblestone Road when the child ended up in the waters. Crews were able to quickly rescue the child and no injuries were reported. Fire officials want to remind the public to stay away from the river and other bodies of water during this time of year.
UTRCA reminding you to be cautious near waterways

You’re being cautioned to be careful near waterways and to stay off all frozen bodies of water.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says rivers, streams, ditches and ponds are hazardous and they expect them to remain elevated over the weekend as runoff from the melting snow reaches the waterways.
They say banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard.
The UTRCA doesn’t anticipate any serious flooding right now but say low lying areas and parklands may be inundated in some areas, such as the Flats in St. Marys.
