USTMA to promote National Tire Safety Week

WASHINGTON The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) will launch its yearly consumer tire safety awareness campaign, National Tire Safety Week, from June 28 through July 4.
This year s theme, Do Your Part, Know Your Roll, will educate motorists about proper tire care and maintenance as an important part of road safety. Safety has always been a priority for USTMA and its partners, and the lens through which we view safety has expanded as a result of the pandemic, Anne Forristall Luke, USTMA president and CEO, said. National Tire Safety Week aims to educate drivers about the vital yet practical steps they can take to properly maintain and care for their tires. Tires are the only part of a vehicle that touches the road, so you want to keep them in top shape to help you stay safe on the road.

WASHINGTON The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association has recognized Goodyear and Michelin North America Inc. for their efforts in workplace safety and health with 2021 Innovation Awards.
The honors, presented virtually recently, are part of the USTMA s annual Sustainability Awards for Workplace Safety and Health.
In the technology category, Goodyear was recognized for a motion-capture app it developed that performs ergonomic risk assessments.
Goodyear s use of this technology allows employees to film their fellow employees performing a job and upload that clip to the app, which generates an ergonomic risk assessment, the USTMA said.
This tool has helped identify and implement actions to reduce risk and using it within the ergonomics process has reduced ergonomic risk by as much as 30 percent in jobs assessed.

AKRON Tire prices are on the rise, due in large part to a combination of increased raw materials costs, higher shipping expenses and changing market conditions.
Over the past few months,
Tire Business has tracked as many as 20 tire-price increases from 10 major tire manufacturers, including multiple increases from all but three of them.
Goodyear, which issued tire price increases in December 2020 and April, noted in its fourth-quarter 2020 conference call in February that it expects raw materials costs to increase $125 million to $175 million during 2021, based on spot rates.
The tire maker said about two-thirds of raw materials costs are influenced by oil prices, and raw materials make up about 36% of the cost of goods sold (COGS). Goodyear said natural rubber and butadiene prices are above pre-COVID-19 levels, and carbon black prices have been rising steadily.
