HONG KONG, Feb 15 (China Daily/ANN): Hong Kong reported nine new Covid-19 cases on Monday, the lowest daily case load since the fourth wave of infections began in mid-November.
In a press briefing on Monday afternoon, Ronald Lam, Controller of the Centre for Health Protection, said the new cases included five imported cases and four local infections. The tally of confirmed cases stood at 10,788.
Lam urged members of the public not to let their guard down, noting that the numbers might again go up if there were numerous large gatherings during the Chinese Lunar New Year.
“Looking back at the past experience in the past year, usually after long vacations, after that kind of gathering, we usually see some form of upsurge so we don’t rule out the possibility that the number of cases would come up again,” Lam said.

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 24 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 18 are locally transmitted.
At a press briefing this afternoon, the centre s Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said that among the local cases, nine have unknown sources of infection.
She said residents of the seven buildings where the patients live have to undergo compulsory virus testing.
Additionally, three buildings in Tung Chung, Pok Fu Lam and Kowloon City have been included in the compulsory testing notice.
The Government will set up mobile specimen collection stations at Shek Ku Lung Road Playground in Wong Tai Sin and Kwong Fuk Estate in Tai Po on February 13, while the service period of the mobile stations at Kwun Chung Sports Centre in Jordan and MacPherson Playground in Mong Kok will be extended to February 16.
Authorities have evacuated more than 70 people from a rehabilitation centre in Hong Kong over concerns of a possible Covid-19 cluster and confirmed a resident was among 26 new infections logged on Tuesday.
Twenty-one cases were locally transmitted, five of which were untraceable, while another five infections were imported, including ones involving a domestic helper from Indonesia and a family of four from India. About 20 people also tested preliminary-positive for the virus.
The city’s coronavirus tally stands at 10,693 cases. Two more patients succumbed to the disease – an 82-year-old woman with underlying health conditions who died on Monday evening and an 87-year-old man with chronic disease who died on Tuesday night – taking the number of related fatalities to 188.

Hong Kong reported a slight rebound in new COVID-19 infections, logging 37 cases on Friday, bringing the city s overall tally to 10,589.
The new infections included three imported cases – from Russia, Pakistan and Ghana – and 34 locally transmitted ones, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection s communicable disease branch, said at a briefing.
The financial hub saw only around 20 new cases over the past three days.
There were more than 20 people who tested preliminarily positive for the coronavirus, Chuang added.
