Centre Volunteers In Medicine (CVIM) hosted an event on Saturday morning at Mount Nittany Middle School to celebrate its COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
The organization lauded its volunteers, provided updates on its campaign and reported the total vaccines administered to date. In a THON-style reveal,
CVIM announced it has distributed a total of 21,750 vaccine doses at clinics in Centre County since Jan. 14.
“This effort has been nothing short of heroic…Nearly 20,000 vaccines is an incredible accomplishment and one we can all be proud of,” State College Area School District Board of Directors President Amber Concepcion said. “I would urge every eligible individual in our community to please plan your vaccine to protect yourself and your loved ones.”
Centre County reported 50 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 16,325, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 4,607 positives for a statewide total of 1,151,005. According to the health department, one lab submitted nearly 300 test results dating back to December and another “submitted a large file of test results that were collected within the last three days.”
The county also also had 102 additional negative test results to increase its total to 67,912. Across Pennsylvania, there were 9,696 new negatives for a total of 4,392,676.
Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 19 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Thursday. The patients range in age from 34 to 100, according to a hospital spokesperson. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, two Centre County COVID-19 patients are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.

Vaccination clinic at BJC offering drop-ins, choice between two vaccines

The vaccination site is open to all individuals age 18 and above, regardless of county of residence and including students from out of state. The clinic’s hours of operation are noon to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The clinic is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
With all Pennsylvania residents age 16 and older eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, Centre Volunteers in Medicine and Mount Nittany Health are both encouraging community members to sign up for vaccination appointments at their clinics.
Vaccines are administered at no cost and individuals do not need to be current patients of CVIM or Mount Nittany to schedule appointments. Anyone 16 or older can register.
CVIM will offer the Pfizer vaccine at a clinic scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Mount Nittany Middle School. Another clinic is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Mount Nittany Middle School.
