While numbers are declining in every other region globally, cases in India are still soaring and made up half the new cases worldwide over the last week.
The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday urged people to increase vigilance and thoroughly practice preventive measures against COVID-19 as it reported 16 locally transmitted cases of the disease.
Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the center, said that 21 cases were confirmed in Taiwan yesterday: 16 local cases, four imported cases and one case undetermined.
The locally transmitted cases are three linked to a cluster of infections at a gambling house in Yilan County, 10 associated with a previous case in New Taipei City and three with unclear sources of infection.

TAIPEI (The China Post) â Taiwan wonât raise its epidemic warning to the 3rd Level but authorities will work on better implementing the epidemic-prevention measures and strategies, Premier Su Tseng-chang (èè²æ) said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Premier Su explained that Taiwanâs epidemic prevention has made good achievements, succeeding in making the country relatively safe for more than a year.
âThere were still some issues today, so (we will) be more careful, but there is no need to upgrade,â he added.
The premier stressed that the various agencies under the government must follow the guidelines for epidemic prevention provided by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC, ä¸å¤®æµè¡ç«æ ææ®ä¸å¿).
