MEMBERS of a Morton fans investment group have voted by a landslide to back an historic takeover which will see them become the new owners of the club. The renegotiated package was tabled to 500 pledgers last month after Morton Club Together (MCT) struck a deal with current club owners Golden Casket to see Cappielow change hands and Ton s debt pile written off. It has been backed by 77 per cent of the MCT membership, with only one per cent against and 22 per cent abstaining. The new agreement will mean that the fans group will own 90 per cent of the club, with the 75 per cent held by Rae family firm Golden Casket being transferred.
Greenock Morton Football Club Ground. Cappielow Park,. TODAY is the final deadline for Morton Club Together s members to cast their vote on the proposed Ton takeover. The fans investment group has struck a new, improved deal with club owners Golden Casket which will see Cappielow change hands and the debt pile written off, with the Rae family firm keeping the car park land. By Tuesday over 300 people had voted on the fresh proposal, which is expected to pass comfortably. Voting will close at 5pm today and if the agreement gets the thumbs-up then lawyers from both sides will begin work on finalising it.
A MORTON fans investment group has struck a new deal to take over the club - with Cappielow changing hands and all the holding company debt written off. Morton Club Together has tonight presented its members with a new proposal agreed with Rae family firm Golden Casket, which is set to see the club change hands this summer. The package will be voted on by members and it is expected to pass. Supporters had expressed concerns over the initial options that had been tabled last year - and MCT and Golden Casket subsequently held successful talks to hammer out a new and improved agreement.
