COVID-19 Numbers for Saturday, January 30th
It was another day of condolences for Oneida and Herkimer Counties as more deaths were reported today from COVID-19. Six people died in Oneida County and there was one new death in Herkimer County.
Oneida County had 141 new positive cases for a total of 3,801 active positive cases. 119 Oneida County residents are hospitalized and being treated for the virus. Herkimer County added 37 new cases for an active case total of 807. 35 Herkimer county sidings are hospitalized with the virus.
The focus for so many people continues to be the lack of vaccine availability. SUNY POLY in Marcy continues vaccinate residents but no new appointments are being made. Oneida County continues to be out of the vaccine, and released this statement on Saturday.

Clinton, N.Y. - A number of local colleges are preparing to start the spring semester next week.
Testing, quarantine periods and distanced learning are just a few of the ways local colleges will combat the coronavirus this semester
Hamilton College, Herkimer College, and SUNY Poly each begin classes on Monday, February 1.
Utica College will also start on Monday but classes will be online for the first week with in-person instruction beginning February 8.
Mohawk Valley Community College is preparing to begin classes on Tuesday, February 2nd.

Oneida County reported three more COVID-19-related deaths and 72 new cases Friday, bringing the death toll to 334 and total cases to 17,882.
On Thursday, the county gave 212 people their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at its point of distribution, or POD, at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, according to the county. And it vaccinated another 309 people with their first dose at the county’s POD at Griffiss International Airport in Rome.
In total, the county has given first doses and second doses to those who are ready for them to 5,353 people, using up all the vaccine allocated to the county by the state.

According to researchers at the University of East Anglia, University of Minnesota and the Earlham Institute, cats and dogs may also need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to help stunt the spread of the infectious disease
“It is not unthinkable that vaccination of some domesticated animal species might … be necessary to curb the spread of the infection,” the experts wrote in the peer-reviewed medical journal, the UK’s Independent reported.
According to the
