Welfare check leads to stash house discovery Finding is result of multiple agencies YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - In collaboration with Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and Yuma Police Department (YPD), the Yuma Sector Border Patrol arrested six illegally-present individuals after they were discovered in a stash house Tuesday afternoon. Border Patrol agents responded to a request for assistance from law enforcement agencies at a trailer located in the Cottonwood Trailer Park at approximately 3 p.m. Courtesy Photo YCSO and YPD conducted the welfare check on the trailer following a report of suspicious activity. Both agencies then discovered six suspected immigrants inside.

Record checks found that Payes-Mejia has several felony convictions, had served time in prison, and has an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

Ducey said he wanted to see firsthand what he says is a security and humanitarian crisis at the border and to call out the Biden Administration for its “failed leadership.”       The governor met with Yuma Sector Border Patrol officials and was joined by elected officials and border sheriffs.    “We will be sending up to 250 of our best women and men to our border communities, including here in Yuma, Ducey said in front of a section of border fence west of Yuma. They’ll be able to provide logistical, field and operational support to Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and his team.”
