Deli clerk pepper sprayed during robbery
A robber attacked the clerk and stole the cash register.
NEW YORK - A Staten Island deli clerk was pepper-sprayed in the face during an early morning robbery.
The NYPD says it happened last Tuesday at a store on Forest Ave. in the West Brighton neighborhood.
A man went into the deli at 4:10 a.m. and sprayed the 53-year-old man in the face. The robber then grabbed the entire cash register before taking off.
The victim suffered pain and redness to the eyes and EMS took him to Richmond University Medical Center where he was treated and released.

NYPD seeks man for questioning in connection to West Brighton robbery

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man sought for questioning in connection to a West Brighton robbery.
The incident, which occurred on Dec. 8, 2020 at around 4:10 a.m. inside of a deli located at 350 Forest Ave., began when the unknown man discharged pepper spray into the face of a 53-year-old cashier, according to a statement from the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
The man then removed the cash register from the deli before fleeing the store on Hart Avenue, the police statement said.
Monday’s COVID-19 data: Hospitalizations increase slightly, new cases continue to climb

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. While the first doses of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine were administered Monday on Staten Island, new cases and hospitalizations once again climbed on the borough as the country’s death toll surpassed 300,000.
There were 235 new cases reported since Sunday, according to city Health Department data, after 277 positive tests were tallied between Saturday and Sunday.
In total, 25,350 borough residents have tested positive for the virus, the data shows.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, 1,188 borough residents are believed to have succumbed to the disease, which represented a drop of two from yesterday’s total when seven new deaths were initially considered “probable.”
