Calls for COVID-19 vaccination appointments overload city phone system

High call volume from residents seeking COVID-19 vaccination appointments on Thursday was likely the cause of the disruption to the city s phone system, city officials said. By about 9 a.m., more than 75% of the slots to receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine were booked, according to a city news release. An hour later, all the slots were booked, according to a second news release.  The slots were part of the city s vaccination schedule for Thursday between 10 a.m to 4 p.m. at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Exhibit Hall. City spokeswoman Lacey Nobles said Thursday s vaccinations split the remaining 800-plus doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine between Phase 1A patients who have not yet been vaccinated and Phase 1B patients.
