LA County says Manhattan Beach is violating outdoor dining ban

Photo     The City of Manhattan Beach’s attempt to help local restaurants by repurposing outdoor dining decks into city-controlled, public seating has come under direct fire from Los Angeles County Health Officer Muntu Davis.  Davis sent a letter to City Manager Bruce Moe that said the city’s repurposing of the dining decks “violates both the letter and the spirit” of the Safer At Home public health order issued by the County on December 9. Davis said the ban on outdoor dining is an essential part of the effort to limit gatherings.

L.A. County Surpasses 600,000 COVID-19 Cases as Hospitalizations Continue to Soar The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has reported more than 600,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County. More than 100,000 new cases have been reported since December 11, when L.A. County reached 500,000 COVID-19 cases.  L.A. County is experiencing the fastest acceleration of new cases than at any other time during the pandemic.   To date, Public Health identified 610,372 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 8,817 deaths.  Today, Public Health has confirmed 60 new deaths and 13,756 new cases of COVID-19.

According to SoCal Edison spokesman Reggie Kumar, dangerous winds and dry conditions are forecast for Wednesday and Christmas Eve, adding to what has already been a parched season filled with monitoring and shut-offs. “Those winds along with dry vegetation that has been dried out by winds over the last several weeks are combining to create dangerous wildfire conditions in fire-prone areas of SCE’s service territory,” Kumar said. He added that SoCal Edison is aware that it is both a holiday and pandemic, but that SoCal Edison had to prioritize safety and ensuring that power is restored as quickly as possible.
