PECKS MILL â A man from Pecks Mill is behind bars facing charges of sexual abuse after authorities say a child provided a forensic interview detailing several years of inappropriate acts.
Currently held at Southwestern Regional Jail on a cash-only bond of $50,000 is Harold Jennings Newsom Jr., 56, of Pecks Mill. He was arraigned Feb. 3 by Logan County Magistrate Joe Mendez and has been charged with sexual abuse by a guardian.
According to a criminal complaint filed on public record in the Magistrate Court system, a 9-year-old female victim was given a forensic interview at the Logan County Child Advocacy Center on Dec. 17, 2020, regarding a sexual assault complaint. Authorities say that in the interview, the victim stated that Newsom started sexually abusing her when she was 5.
LOGAN â Gunshots on Stratton Street near the drive-thru LB&T bank led to three police agencies in the county swarming the area for around an hour Tuesday, Jan. 26.
It started as a simple traffic stop by patrolman M.S. Hall of the City of Logan Police Department. According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, Hall observed a black Kia speeding along W.Va. 10 and pulled it over at the LB&T drive-thru bank at 512 Stratton St.
Hall performed the routine checks and ran the individuals in the car through Logan County 911 to check for warrants. Hall writes that he then observed a man jump out of the back passenger seat, whom he later identified as Scott Allen Breeden, 23, of Dunbar.
MOUNT GAY â Police say methamphetamine, heroin, money and other drugs were found after a search warrant was executed on a home in Mount Gay.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, three troopers with the West Virginia State Police, along with members of the Logan County Sheriffâs Department, executed a search warrant Jan. 25 at a home along Continental Avenue in the Mount Gay area during an ongoing drug investigation.
When police made entry into the residence, they located George Gallagher, 61, of Logan. Police say they advised Gallagher of their reason for being there, and Gallagher told them the suspected drugs were in his First Alert safe in his bedroom.
WILKINSON â West Virginia State Police arrested a 21-year-old Chapmanville man on drug charges.
Arresting officer Cpl. J.G. Honaker of the West Virginia State Police writes in a criminal complaint that the arrest happened Jan. 15 while he was observing traffic along W.Va. 44 in Wilkinson.
According to the complaint, Honaker observed a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck without a driverâs side mirror in the parking lot of a gas station. Honaker said the vehicle âappeared to have been wrecked and appeared to be unsafe and not roadworthy.â
Honaker conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with Rebecca Borders, 34. According to Honaker, WVSP Communications advised him that her driverâs license was revoked due to an active DUI charge.
LOGAN â A Lincoln County woman and Boone County man were arrested by Natural Resources Police recently after power tools and food items were taken from the Chief Logan Lodge and Conference Center.
Jessica Rae Stone, 36, of Spurlockville, and Dallas Dean Miller, 43, of Morrisville, are both charged with burglary after the incident, which police say happened Jan. 12.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, Michael S. Ellis, an officer with the West Virginia Natural Resources Police, was dispatched to the Chief Logan Lodge and Conference Center for a tempering with vehicle complaint. When Ellis arrived, he said he found the suspects at the lodge around a vehicle.
