Local health officials and funeral authorities have seen an increase in COVID-related deaths in recent weeks. Though under control right now, Hall County Coroner Marion Merck said he has been working on plans in recent weeks to expand the county’s ability to store the dead amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “Families are making fast decisions on the type of services they want,” Merck said. “We’re not having to delay anything on that, so we’re staying up with it pretty well now. I’m very much concerned about the future, that’s no doubt.”

The process went smoothly, according to Mimi Collins, CEO of Longstreet Clinic. Patients that have been registered for an appointment checked in at the front desk, filled out paperwork and then made their way to the pharmacy, where blue curtains formed small rooms for patients to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Urvashi Patel, age 70, received the vaccine and said she felt much better and could not wait to receive the second dose.
