Adair County adds 16 cases, 1 death from COVID-19 Kirksville Daily Express The Adair County Health Department reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death from the virus on Monday. The death was an 83-year-old woman who passed away on Jan. 31 after being admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center on Jan. 15.  And the 16 new cases came across the weekend and Monday. There were seven cases added over the weekend and then nine more on Monday. That puts Adair County at 2,169 total cases, with 90 active, and 20 deaths from the virus. The two cases confirmed on Jan. 31 include an 86-year-old female who was admitted to NRMC on Monday and is not requiring a ventilator. The other case is a 19-year-old male residing at an address with at least one other confirmed case. Cases confirmed Monday include females ages 19, 33, 50, 54, 57 and 63. Males are ages 6, 20 and 22. Kirksville girl, Milan woman killed in wreck on icy road

Kirksville girl, Milan woman killed in wreck on icy road Kirksville Daily Express A 12-year-old Kirksville girl and a 49-year-old Milan woman were killed Monday after a car accident about 9 miles west of Novinger. The Kirksville girl’s name was not released, but the Milan woman was identified as Robin Wasson. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report, they were in an SUV driven by Carlos Varelas, heading east on Highway 6.  Due to ice on the road, Varelas lost control, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming van. The van’s driver was treated at the scene and released. Wasson and the girl were ejected from their vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Adair County Coroner Brian Noe. The patrol’s report notes Wasson and the van driver were wearing seat belts, but it was unknown if the girl or Varelas were.

MO 6 Double Fatality A two vehicle crash on Missouri 6 nine miles west of Novinger Monday afternoon claims two lives. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by 31 year old Carlos Varelas of Milan went out of control on the icy road… crossed the center line and hit a van driven by 47 year old Daniel Dile of Green Castle. Two passengers in the SUV -49 year old Robin Wasson of Milan and a 12 year old female juvenile were pronounced dead at the scene. Varelas was taken to Northeast Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Dile was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
