After failing to start the largest exposition in Bangladesh on January 1 due to the rogue virus, the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of the commerce ministry, the organiser, had planned to inaugurate it on March 17. But the high-ups of the government did not give the permission, Munshi said. So, I can t specifically say when the DITF will be held this year. However, I can say that the fair would be organised at a convenient time this year, he said at the handover ceremony of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre (CBFEC).

Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka Imran Ahmed Siddiqui said this while paying a courtesy call on Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city, said a press release. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tipu Munshi said, Bangladesh is moving fast in all fields, including economic and social ones. “Bangladesh’s trade with Pakistan is ongoing. Tea, pharmaceuticals, readymade garments, ceramic, leather and jute products are exported from Bangladesh to Pakistan. There is an opportunity to further increase these exports,” he added.

Bangladesh imports 90 percent of its cooking oil. “The surge in prices in the international market has an impact,” he said. Cooking oil was sold at $700 per tonne in July and rose to as high as $1,190 before settling down to $1,100. “It means global prices have left an impact on the local markets,” Munshi said.
