WATERBURY – The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled Thursday in favor of Gov. Ned Lamont and his use of an executive order, which closed a Milford bar earlier this year.
The ruling in favor of Lamont upheld a lower-court ruling by a judge in Waterbury Superior Court that found the governor’s decision was within his authority.
Casey’s Irish Pub had sued Lamont in June asking the court to declare that the governor acted beyond his statutory and constitutional authority when he issued executive orders that effectively shut down bars in the state. State officials had limited businesses throughout the state as they hoped to limit the spread of COVID-19. The pub has been closed since March, according to the high court’s ruling.
