Cold Reality Dawns: Covid-19 Is Likely Here to Stay

Cold Reality Dawns: Covid-19 Is Likely Here to Stay © Tatan Syuflana/Associated Press Vaccination drives hold out the promise of curbing Covid-19, but governments and businesses are increasingly accepting what epidemiologists have long warned: The pathogen will circulate for years, or even decades, leaving society to co-exist with Covid-19 much as it does with other endemic diseases like flu, measles, and HIV. The ease with which the coronavirus spreads, the emergence of new strains and poor access to vaccines in large parts of the world mean Covid-19 could shift from a pandemic disease to an endemic one, implying lasting modifications to personal and societal behavior, epidemiologists say.

Tianwen-1 is China s first independent interplanetary mission, expected to complete its six-month journey to Mars on Feb. 10, 2021. The probe, a combination orbiter, lander and rover, launched from Earth aboard a Long March 5 rocket on July 23, 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Having traveled 292 million miles (470 million kilometers) from Earth, Tianwen-1 will enter orbit around the Red Planet on Feb. 10. The Tianwen-1 rover will attempt to land on the Red Planet in May.

Forget Blood—Your Skin Might Know If You re Sick

To revist this article, visit My Profile, then View saved stories. A river of biological information flows just beneath the outermost layers of your skin, in which a hodgepodge of proteins squeeze past each other through the interstitial fluid surrounding your cells. This interstitium is an expansive and structured space, making it, to some, a newfound “organ.” But its wealth of biomarkers for conditions like tuberculosis, heart attacks, and cancer has attracted growing attention from researchers looking to upend reliance on diagnostic tools they say are inefficient, invasive, and blood-centric. Blood is a tiny fraction of the fluid in our body, says Mark Prausnitz, a chemical engineer at Georgia Tech who has been studying drug delivery through the skin since the 1990s. Other fluids should have something useful—it s just hard to get those fluids.

Covid-19: Learning to live with a new endemic disease - with insights from The Wall Street Journal

A global effort is unraveling many mysteries around the Covid-19 virus. During the course of the pandemic society has adapted quickly, turning many aspects of every day life upside down. Virologists have warned that Covid-19 inoculation isn’t a silver bullet, as the virus will continue to mutate. Thomas Frieden, former director of the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention says society must accept that this disease is here to stay. As people grieve a previous way of life, we must also adopt long term changes.
