CHED authorizes two SUCs to offer doctor of medicine program effective AY 2021-2022

(Image from CHED) In support of “Doktor Para sa Bayan” and Universal Health Care laws, CHED allowed Cebu Normal University-Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (CNU-VSMMC) and Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) to offer a Doctor of Medicine Program effective Academic Year (AY) 2021-2022. “The new Doctor of Medicine program in these two SUCs will expand the opportunities for the poor but deserving students through scholarship support under the Doktor Para sa Bayan Act,” said CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III on Wednesday, May 12. De Vera explained that the Duterte administration will “produce more doctors through our top SUCs, who will go to underserved areas and local governments in need of health personnel.”

SunStar (AP photo) May 12, 2021 THE Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) has yet to iron out supply chain arrangements prior to the distribution of the 29,250 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine delivered to the region on Tuesday morning, May 11, 2021. Cebu City Health Department (CHD) officer-in-charge Jeffrey Ibones said a meeting has been set for Friday, May 14, to finalize allocations. Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH 7 spokesperson, said in a virtual briefing on Wednesday, May 12, that they have not determined the allocations for each local government unit (LGU). Earlier, she said the vaccine will go to the three highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, which have the capability to store the vaccine at ultra-low temperature.
