New Delhi, May 12 (IANS): With the Tokyo Olympic Games around the corner India s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is disappointed that he can t compete in international events in Europe due to a huge spike in Coronavirus cases in India. We were supposed to go to Turkey in the last week of April but couldn t go because several European nations banned Indians due to the surge in [Covid] pandemic cases in India, he said during an online media interaction on Wednesday.
Chopra, 23, had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in January 2020 in South Africa.

New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Sabre fencer Bhavani Devi, who created history by becoming the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympic Games, on Wednesday said that she is looking forward to giving her best performance in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. It will be the first time when most of our country will watch fencing and will watch me play, so will give my best performance in front of them, she said at a media interaction facilitated by the Sports Authority of India.
By winning a quota through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) method after the Budapest World Cup in March, the 27-year-old from Chennai marked a major milestone in a long journey. She had started her career by training with bamboo sticks. The sense of excitement on becoming the first fencer to represent India at the Olympics isn t lost on Bhavani.

Bengaluru, May 11 : Indian national hockey team defender Amit Rohidas has credited India s recent success in Europe and Argentina to his side s dedicated training based on inputs from video analysis.
Rohidas, who is currently with the core group at Sports Authority of India s (SAI) centre in Bengaluru preparing for the Tokyo Olympics, said, Video analysis has been playing a massive part for us in terms of our preparations; it helped us on both tours (Europe and Argentina).

Sunday was also the second consecutive day when the Asian country reported over 4,000 deaths in 24 hours from the coronavirus epidemic.

India is currently suffering a tough second wave of COVID-19. On Sunday, India’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 22-million mark with 22,296,414 cases including 403,738 new infections. Sunday was also the second consecutive day when the Asian country reported over 4,000 deaths in 24 hours from the coronavirus epidemic.
The government’s initiative aims to allow ex-international athletes and coaches to put forward their requirements for medical aid, oxygen, hospitalization and other support on an online platform.
