Gov Evers Announces Wisconsin to Receive First Shipment of Moderna Vaccine

Tony Evers, together with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), today announced Wisconsin is expecting shipments of the Moderna vaccine to begin arriving at hospitals and clinics across the state this week. The initial shipment is expected to be 16,000 doses, with state health officials planning to receive a total of 100,000 doses in the upcoming weeks. Unlike the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, the Moderna vaccine can be stored in normal freezers, which allows the vaccine to be shipped directly to vaccinating entities across Wisconsin.

There have been 4,425 deaths in the state, with eight new deaths reported Monday by DHS officials. There are currently three patients being cared for at the Alternate Care Facility at Wisconsin State Fair Park. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 1,812 new COVID-19 cases Sunday from 7,693 processed tests. The seven-day case total stands at 20,404, well below November 18th’s record report of 45,946. The seven-day testing total stands at 68,836, below November 18th’s record rolling total of 133,019 tests. The testing total is filtered to only include individuals who were tested for the first time or have been tested previously but are receiving their first positive diagnosis. The seven-day positive case rate, the percentage of tests that confirm a new case of the disease and proxy for if the disease’s spread is growing or slowing, stands at 31.96%, below the record high of 38.12% set December 4th. The 14-day average is 31.58%. The 14-day average set a low of 2.69% on June 19th
