HUDSON VALLEY, NY It s one thing to make resolutions and then choose not to act on them. It s another thing to have one s good intentions and everyone else s thwarted by a global pandemic. That is what local officials faced at the beginning of 2020 with only two months before society and the economy were shut down.
Patch had asked several local officials for their resolutions and priorities for 2020 and decided to revisit them as the calendar changes to what will hopefully be a much different year.
Westchester County Makes History With the Establishment of Three New Local Youth Bureaus Written by Westchester County
Westchester County Executive George Latimer and the Westchester County Youth Bureau are pleased to announce the establishment of the Ossining Youth Bureau and the reestablishment of the Port Chester and Yonkers Youth Bureaus.
County Executive George Latimer said: “Across the county generations of parents, young adults, and youth have benefitted from Youth Bureaus. Prior to the economic devastation brought on by COVID-19, discussions surrounding the need for social, emotional, physical, educational, and economic supports were ongoing; but the pandemic made this more pronounced. This historic addition of three Youth Bureaus in Westchester stand as a clear reminder that we are investing in county’s children, youth, and families.”
Westchester officials join Gov. Cuomo s call to ramp up COVID-19 protocols at airports

Westchester County officials are joining Gov. Andrew Cuomo s plea to the federal government to increase COVID-19 protocol at airports because of the new strain of coronavirus currently being investigated in the U.K.
Cuomo is calling for a total ban on travel from the U.K. or mandatory negative tests before flying into the United States.
Nearly 40 countries have already banned travel from there, but not the United States.
So, Cuomo is taking matters into his own hands by partnering with airlines that fly out of the U.K.

For the second year in a row, Westchester County Executive George Latimer has cut the Westchester County tax levy by $1 million dollars. Latimer signed the budget flanked by nurses at the Westchester County Health Department Clinic highlighting the unprecedented year that 2020 has been, and the extraordinary work of our healthcare professionals.
In the midst of a crippling pandemic and an economic downtown, Latimer kept his promise to the people of Westchester and signed the 2021 budget not only cutting taxes, but also maintaining all County services, and cutting expenditures by $15.7 million dollars in the $2.091 billion dollar budget.

Hundreds of new COVID-19 cases were reported in Westchester over the weekend as the county continues to combat the spread of the virus.
The state Department of Health was reporting 594 new COVID-19 cases in Westchester out of nearly 10,000 tested on Sunday, Dec. 13.
Health officials are currently monitoring approximately 8,600 active cases of the virus, Westchester County Executive George Latimer said during his latest COVID-19 briefing this week, noting that the number is the highest it s been since April, when the county saw a spike upwards of 12,000 active cases. We expect there will be some additional movement (in the numbers), Latimer said on Monday, Dec. 14. We ve seen about eight weeks of continual rise in the infection rate and the number of people hospitalized.
