SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (FOX 2) - Earlier this week, MacKenzie Scott announced a massive pandemic-era philanthropy effort in her plan to give away more than $4 billion across the country. One of those organizations getting funding is one she s never worked with before.
Scott is known for many things - an author, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and a philanthropist - and announced her plan on Wednesday to give away billions to various nonprofits around the country.

HOUSTON - Writer and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott brought Christmas early to hundreds of organizations to the tune of $4.16 billion as part of a giving pledge she announced last year. Some of them were donations to groups in the greater Houston area, including two gifts that are historic.
The former wife of Jezz Bezos gave a record-setting donation to Prairie View A&M University.

SEATTLE - MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist, author and former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has announced that she has given away $4.1 billion in the past four months to hundreds of organizations as part of a giving pledge she announced last year.
Scott announced her pandemic-era philanthropy in a Medium post Tuesday, The Seattle Times reported. She described the coronavirus pandemic as “a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,” and noted is has been worse for women, people of color and those living in poverty.

Scott announced in a blog post Tuesday she had donated an estimated $4.16 billon in recent months to 384 organizations across the United States, including Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. This pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling, Scott wrote. Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color, and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.
