Judge Mark Powers conducted the ceremony and told the audience citizenship was a privilege.
“This remains the land of freedom and opportunity, where you are limited only by your desire and your diligence to pursue your goals,” Powers said.
Rajendra Mukhram first arrived in the U.S. ‘illegally’ in 2000, he said, with the hope of becoming a citizen. Before he could do that he had to return to his home country of Guyana in 2017 to go through the proper channels. First he had to get a green card or a visa, then he had an interview with immigration services and finally, he passed the citizenship test.

Nathaniel Kim said he misses seeing his friends and feeling safe hanging out with them.
“There’s really not much you can do with your friends, so if we do get everyone vaccinated we’ll definitely have a nicer time that we can just have hanging out with our friends as opposed to just being completely in our rooms or doing things outside,” he said. “Also just like not worrying about getting sick too.”
Kim, a pre-med student, sits on the Student Senate COVID safety and vaccine committee. He along with his co-chair Annamaria Walden are working on educating students about the safety of the vaccine.

Sookyung Lee, a Niskayuna resident and the founder of Ppang Bakery, spent years trying to pin down the exact recipe for the milk bread she remembered eating as a child in South Korea.
“Then during quarantine … I was cooking up a storm and finally, I found this recipe for milk bread and I tried it, and it was very close. I had to tweak [it] a little bit, but I was so happy about it,” Lee said.
After recreating the sweet flavor and soft texture of the white bread she grew up enjoying, Lee recently began offering it to others in the Capital Region through Ppang Bakery.

Wixted, a technical specialist in Schenectady County Community College’s Department of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism, is anxious to spread the news. As project coordinator of the New York State Hospitality Grant, which has been charged with running one-day seminars for food service personnel, Wixted does not think some establishments know about the new rule.
