Two Stabbed In Parking Lot Fight Bend Police are investigating an incident where two people were stabbed in the parking lot of a northeast Bend apartment complex Saturday night. Shortly before 10:00 p.m. Police were called to Stonebriar Apartments, at 21285 Highway 20. The victims are both males, ages 23 and 17. They were treated at St Charles Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. “Witnesses saw an altercation involving numerous people in the parking lot,” according to Bend Police.  “No arrests have been made at this time.  An investigation is ongoing to determine what crimes were committed during this incident and to identify suspect(s).”

Local girl injured in rollover crash Female juvenile driver likely left roadway and over-corrected on Crooked River Highway A young local driver sustained minor injuries following a rollover crash on Crooked River Highway just south of Prineville late Thursday morning. Crook County emergency personnel received a report on the crash at 11:55 a.m., and when deputies arrived on scene and contacted the juvenile female driver, she had already exited the car on her own. An investigation determined that the driver was traveling southbound when for unknown reasons, she left the roadway. Authorities believe she overcorrected, causing the car to roll. The vehicle came to a final resting position back on its tires. The driver was wearing her seatbelt prior to the crash.

Health care workers strike Bend, Oregon, hospital More than 150 medical technicians, technologists and therapists are on strike indefinitely at the St. Charles hospital in Bend, Oregon, in a strike that began March 4. Issues concern their first contract with the hospital, pay and manageable workloads. The strike was authorized by 94 percent of the workers at the region’s primary trauma center and the largest referral hospital. The health workers on strike are represented by the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP) Local 5017, which is an offshoot of the American Federation of Teachers. The health care workers have not secured a first contract since voting to form a union in 2019. Some of them, such as respiratory therapists, and x-ray or computerized tomography (CT) technicians, have been specially trained and function as essential caregivers for COVID-19 patients.

Christopher Jansik, 32, of Bend, was jailed for possessing and selling meth and heroin in his residence on the 2000 block of Daggett Lane. A handgun and cash were also seized. More charges were filed because the residence is 1000 feet from a school. Amy Jo Sapp, 41, from La Pine, was also arrested for an outstanding warrant, and frequenting a place that sells drugs. The investigation began when the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit received information from concerned citizens that illegal drug activity, specifically the ongoing sales of methamphetamine from the residence. local agents used various investigative techniques to acquire enough evidence to apply for and obtain a search warrant for the residence.
