THE SPALDING SOFTBALL TEAM WAITED SO LONG TO HAVE A FIELD OF THEIR OWN. BUT WITH THE PANDEMIC STARTING, THEY WERE ONLY ABLE TO PLAY TWO GAMES ON THE NEW TURF LA SEASON. THIS VENUE IS COMING AT THE PERFECT TIME WITH THE COVID RESTRICTIONS, IF WE WERE PLAYING SOMEWHERE ELSE, WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE IF WE DID NOT HAVE A FIELD. ART WILLIAMS IS THE HEAD COACH. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS 14 SEASONS AS THE HEAD COACH, HE DOESN’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT FACILITIES. No. 21 Virginia at Louisville. The Cavaliers (16-6, 12-4) snapped a three-game slide with a 62-51 victory against Miami on Monday night and are second in the league standings behind Florida State. The Cardinals (13-5, 8-4) had their game against Virginia Tech scheduled for Wednesday night canceled because of contact tracing within the Hokies program. With a victory, Louisville would earn a double bye for the ACC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. If the Cardinals lose, Georgia Tech, Clemson and North Carolina would all have the opportunity to leap-frog the Cardinals in the standings with victories.

BY T MICHELE WALKER – Following the success of their last “Island Booknotes Live 2021” featuring author Fred Rich, The Johann Fust Library Foundation will present the second event in their literary series on Thursday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
“Author’s Unmasked” will feature Island authors Daly Walker and Lucinda Dixon Sullivan, who will discuss the writer’s life, moderated by local author, Alice Gorman. The event continues the theme of “Voices from Boca Grande – Celebrating A Love Affair with Books.”
Daly Walker’s short stories have appeared in numerous literary publications, including “The Atlantic Monthly” and “Saturday Evening Post.” His work has been shortlisted for “Best American Short Stories,” a “Pushcart Prize,” and an “O’Henry Award.” Walker, who teaches a fiction writer’s workshop at Dartmouth College, has a new collection of short stories entitled “Resuscitation,” soon to be released.

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced Kentucky’s colleges and universities were allocated a total of $203,628,298 to support students and campus communities during the coronavirus crisis. The federal funding, distributed by the U.S. Department of Education, was made available by the additional, targeted COVID-19 rescue legislation Senator McConnell negotiated and led to enactment in December.
