In rarely seen vote, Jersey City Council OKs resolution to abolish HCDO line with only 2 yeses

Ward E Councilman James Solomon, the sponsor of the measure, was joined by Councilman-at-Large Rolando Lavarro in voting yes.
The remaining electeds in attendance, Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera, Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano, and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh all abstained, with Council President Joyce Watterman, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, and Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson absent.
“It is a big conversation. It is an extraordinarily important conversation as a state we simply have not had until the last year,” Solomon said prior to the vote.

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis has selected William Sampson IV, a longshoreman and crane operator, to replace Assemblyman Nick Chiaravalloti (D-31) on the Hudson County Democratic Organization line in the June 8th primary.

“I am very happy and extremely privileged to introduce William B. Sampson IV as our candidate for State Assembly in this year’s election, and I am looking forward to campaigning with Will and working with him to make both Bayonne and Hudson County the best they can be,” Davis wrote in a Facebook post minutes ago.

After a week of speculation, Mayor James Davis has announced William B. Sampson IV will be the new candidate for state Assembly for the 31st Legislative District which includes Bayonne.
Hudson County political tradition holds that the mayors of cities or towns in the legislative district have the power to choose state assembly and state senate nominations.
