Waste-busting network of community fridges to expand following £500,000 funding boost from the Co-op
The Co-op and environmental charity Hubbub have today announced plans to expand Hubbub s Community Fridge Network with the help of a £500,000 investment from the supermarket giant.
The funding will allow Hubbub to fast-track the expansion of its community fridges across the UK, in an effort to both tackle food poverty and improve access to food that would otherwise end up going to waste. The new programme will see 100 additional community fridges installed across the UK, expanding Hubbub s existing network to 250 sites by the end of the year.

Wasting food is fuelling climate change. That’s the clear message from food waste charity Love Food Hate Waste – and it’s a message that’s backed up by some staggering figures.
Globally, nearly a third of all the food and drink that is produced is wasted. That figure takes in all the food and drink throughout the entire supply chain – from farm to fork – including produce wasted on farms where it is grown, surplus food unsold in supermarkets and restaurants, and anything we buy to eat at home which ends up in the bin.
In fact, if food waste were a country, it would be the third highest emitter of greenhouse gases after the US and China, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
