FDA authorizes Pfizer s Covid-19 vaccine for use in adolescents ages 12 to 15 | KLBJ-AM

The US Food and Drug Administration has expanded the emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to include adolescents ages 12 to 15.  This is the first Covid-19 vaccine in the United States authorized for use in younger teens and adolescents; the vaccine had previously been authorized for people age 16 and older. Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are authorized for use in people age 18 and older. The FDA reviewed data submitted by Pfizer, who said at the end of March that a clinical trial involving 2,260 12-to-15-year-olds showed the vaccine’s efficacy is 100% and it is well tolerated. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet Wednesday to advise the CDC on whether to recommend use of the vaccine in this age group. WPP media agency GroupM is pledging 2% of its annual media spend to Black-owned and other diverse media, and is calling on its clients to do the same. “While GroupM is planning these investments now, the goal is to start these activations in the next 12 to 18 months,” writes Ad Age’s Jeanine Poggi. The agency is also developing an impact fund to support Black content creators and distributors.

On Monday, bosses the TV network announced that they would not air the 2022 ceremony in order to give the HFPA, which organises the Globes, the time to enact meaningful reform over the lack of diversity in its membership. In response to the surprise news, Selma filmmaker DuVernay applauded NBC on social media for taking a stand. Everything matters. Even this. The ripple effects echo through our industry, especially for Black artists and artists of color, she wrote on Twitter. Kudos to all the activists, artists, publicists and executives who took a stand to make this so.
