Multiple charges after pursuit By Jeff Gilliland - jgilliland@timesgazette.com Hilterbran A Hillsboro man is facing a long list of charges after reportedly leading police officers on a long vehicle pursuit early Tuesday morning that went from Hillsboro to Mowrystown and down several roads in between. The Hillsboro Police Department said it responded to a call of a suspicious person in the 400 block of South West Street at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday. Police officers responded and found a male subject occupying a vehicle. As officers were verifying ownership of the vehicle, the male driver put the vehicle in drive and fled the scene, the police department said.

Lynchburg man flees officer By Jeff Gilliland - jgilliland@timesgazette.com Elliott A Lynchburg man remained behind bars Monday facing charges including assaulting a police officer and possession of drugs after allegedly leading an officer on a foot chase of around a half mile. At 10:13 p.m. Saturday, a Hillsboro police officer attempted a traffic stop on Earl Elliott, 48, who eventually abandoned the vehicle he was driving in the Golden Manor Apartments on North East Street, according to the Hillsboro Police Department. An officer said he attempted to stop Elliott for a number of traffic violations, but Elliott continued driving through alleys behind Flagway, down Willow Street and North East Street, eventually pulling into the apartment complex and stopping at the end of the driveway.

Joshua Dennis, 32, of Martinsville has been charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a fourth-degree felony, and receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony. According to Lynchburg Police Chief Richard Warner, the Lynchburg Police Department received a call Monday afternoon reporting a vehicle parked at a Lynchburg residence. After running the plates, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Clinton County.

Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette Hillsboro City Council met for the final time in 2020 Monday night, approving and adopting 11 ordinances and resolutions, including $5,421,820 in general fund appropriations for 2021. City auditor Alex Butler told The Times-Gazette that the $5.4 million general fund budget was “the most critical” for budget funding and was mainly derived from income tax sources. Appropriations for 2021 totaled $14,821,370, which Butler said came from other funding sources besides the income tax, and in some cases, funded themselves.
