During the “trial run” on Wednesday, over 15,000 police personnel, along with SWAT commandos, and over 200 police vehicles armed with high-tech gadgets and weapons, were deployed for the inauguration of the new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The decision has been taken after the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), owner of Pragati Maidan, last month sought security from the Delhi Police after reporting “minor thefts and unauthorised access inside the complex”.

The issue was discussed at a coordination meeting held recently to review the preparedness and security arrangements for VVIPs.
