A petrol pump in Rajkot pasted stickers saying it will not accept currency notes of Rs 2000 from consumers purchasing petroleum products worth less than Rs 2000.

The All India Petroleum Dealers Association said that people are trying to use the Rs 2,000 note even for small transactions, causing a shortage of change at petrol outlets.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Monday explained the reasons Rs 2,000 note withdrawal. He also clarified Rs 2,000 notes exchange, deposit deadline, rules and limits.

The Rs 2,000 currency note was introduced in November 2016, when Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were withdrawn.
