"Bulk of Rs 2,000 notes have come back and so it has largely met our original objective of withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes," said RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das

The former finance minister also said that withdrawing both the Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes were a grave mistake, one that had not been accepted by the people of the country.

SBI said that no identity proof is required to be submitted by the tenderer at the time of exchange.

However, it should be noted that Rs 2000 notes will remain legal tender. Banks have been directed to provide deposit and/or exchange facilities for Rs 2000 notes until September 30, 2023, to allow sufficient time for the public to complete the process.
